Carbon, not only are you a very, very special dog and have earned the top honor of being Dog of the Day , but you have an amazing guardian who not only adores you, but knows how to help you to live your life to the fullest. The activities which you have shared with her, the time you have spent together, and your emotional and psychic connection are what life is all about, at least where those of us here at Pet Talk are concerned.

Dear sweet little Carbon, you have been blessed as has your mom. Thank you both for sharing your story. I think all of those people who read it will have the same big broad smile on their face as I do right now.

p.s. I have two 30 pounders who would love to do a little squirrel chasing with you if you are ever up in our neck of the woods.

Beautiful Carbon! What an amazing life of service, adventure, travel and academia you have led!! Oh, how dogs all over the world must be drooling in envy as they read of your fantastic exploits, and most especially, of that deep, loving bond you share with your Mom; a bond as lasting and pure as can be hoped for between best friends. Carbon - I am glad you have found your way into a much better life with your owner! It sounds like you have gone through some hard times but that you have a great spirit, a strong determination and a loving owner who will do the best for you! I know that it's been a while, but I just wanted to let anyone who is interested know that Carbon died on Aug. 4, 2005. It was complications of cholangiohepatitis - possibly brought on by pain meds and the chemo. He did manage to be in my wedding as best dog, which was an important thing for me. He didn't suffer much at the end, but endured 3 rounds of the hepatitis...

He lived to be 10 1/2 years old, not bad for a 3rd world mutt. We miss him terribly and even after all of this time, it is difficult to deal with. Please eat some fries in his honor. Thanks for all of the happy notes posted about him.
