    R.I.P. Civic Arena

This morning the powers that be made the decision to tear down the old civic arena in Pittsburgh. It stood for 49 years as the home of the Penguins and host to a lot of major concerts. A lot of other people are still going to try to save it from the wrecking ball, but I believe it's fate is sealed.

Do they have plans for something else to be built there? How long has it been unused?

Karen, it's been vacant for about three months. The new Consol Energy arena is all set to go with a Paul McCartney concert and a Lady Gaga concert having played there already. The Penguins own the the property and want to put up a hotel and commercial sites there. As I said, a lot of groups are going to fight to keep the arena alive and try to make it a national historic site.
