Oh, nice little earthquake/jolt in L.A.

    Dude,
Was sitting here @ 8:39 and a nice jolt hit. I was listening to the house settle and I thought of an EQ and BOOM. It wasn't a normal quake- It was short and felt like it ran south to north...

    O.K. god, got the message?

I was thinking of you, Richard. Wondering if you posted about the "quake". It was a 4.7...but I'm SURE it'll be downgraded, like they always are. (What's up with that?!?!)

This one caught me off gaurd. Usually they give me a jolt and then I'm fine. As soon as I can tell (by feel) that its a small/quick one, I'm good. This one was small, but everything shook in the house. Wierd....maybe it was a bit deeper than the ones we had last week?

There were three quakes according to USGS:

    At 8:39 p.m. a 5.0 w a depth of 8.4 miles (5.0??? They don't usually go up, they normally downgrade them. Wierd...)

    http://earthquake.usgs.gov/eqcenter/...ci10410337.php

    Then at 8:44 p.m. a 2.5 w a depth of 10.4 miles

    http://earthquake.usgs.gov/eqcenter/...ci10410345.php

    And a minute later, at 8:45 p.m. a 3.1 w a depth of 7.1 miles

They aren't so bad. I'd take an EQ over a tornado or hurricane ANY day! But, I think each state/area has their own weather-related concerns. I guess we have all those 'super fun' wild fires to worry about too.

    Hey you!
I only felt one sharp jolt....LOL, You know that Gini is the PT QUAKE expert! We'll wait for her report....it was closer to her house. I just spoke to my sis and she felt them both. My niece, who lives farther north said they were pretty strong.

I'm approx 30-40 miles north of you and Gini. Where are your nieces and sisters?

Doh! Sorry Mom, hope I didn't step on any EQ toes.

We went to bed early last night so we didn't hear the news. The Boy got in yesterday from L.A. so maybe that was CA's way of saying that they miss him.

Up here in northern california we don't have much of any natural catastrophes...(crosses fingers) I feel for you Richard that would be scary. I've never felt a quake, I felt dizzy when the big one in san fran hit back in the late eightees.

On a 70's recording by Robin Williams, he had a character named Grandpa Funk as part of his standup routine.

At one point in relating his memories, GF said: "Remember the great quake of '85, when all of California surfed to Denver?"

Seriously, I hope you all stay safe.

They only get scary when they go on for a while.

I have heard people compare it to a freight train-lol. I live 2 blocks from the tracks so maybe I'm jaded?

I felt absolutely nothing!!! My house is bolted to the foundation which makes a difference.

That may seem strange to a lot of you - but older California bungalows were built with a foundation and the house simply "sat" on the foundation.

In earlier earthquakes here there have been pictures of homes that slid off the foundation causing a great deal of damage.

Actually a 4.7 or 5. isn't that large - but it gets your attention for sure.
I always wonder if this is just a foreshock of a larger one to come - but there have been lots of aftershocks of smaller size on this one - so let's hope that that's it!!

I hope everyone was safe though.

Phred, if God is sending us messages here on the left coast, then HE has been doing it for a long time (and we still don't get it!). We have had earthquakes and fires every single year. We sit on two fault lines
that are moving past each other and we have been building in areas that we should not because of the tinder dry brush during drought years.
