    Pictures from my zoo visit

We have a zoo here in town and I haven't been in many years but we decided to go yesterday. I had a lot of fun and we are thinking about getting a membership so we can go more often.

I loved the Meerkats and kept going back to watch them. They are so small and so cute!

Me posing with them, sorry for the extreme close up.

The big new exhibit was the Red Panda. We couldn't get a good picture because they kept pacing around nervously. I felt sorry for them but someone said it was close to mealtime for them.

The gorillas were fun to watch.

Loved the chin whiskers on this guy.

I just thought this guy was cool. He's a Kudu and he hangs out in the big African Grassland's exhibit with the elephants, gazelles and giraffes.

    Gorgeous sleeping cheetah.

We took a lot more pictures and videos but I won't bore you all. I loved the prairie dogs, marmosets and otters too. There was a very sad big brown bear in a not so great pen way off in the back. His sign said he had been used in commercials and movies but then got too big to handle and was sold to an individual in TN who didn't take good care of him so the humane society stepped in. The Knoxville Zoo is housing him temporarily until a suitable home can be found. He broke my heart because he seemed so lonely and sad.

Thanks for looking and hope you enjoyed my pictures.

Looks like a good way to spend the day. Loved the cheetah. Any pictures of tigers (my favorite)? That is just so sad about the bear. And to think that he is in that spot because of human interference. I hope he finds a great new home.

I see this old post got a rebirth from two months ago. Just wanted to add that we enjoyed the zoo so much we bought a year membership - YAY! I haven't been back yet but the weather has been too cold. We often have unusually warm days in the 60s during the winter so I plan to go some then and of course a lot more in the spring and summer.

Unfortunately they haven't found a new home for the brown bear and I read they will need around $30,000 to build him a suitable enclosure there and right now they are starting much needed improvements in other areas and don't have the money.
