    Cars and Cars

I just adopted an 18 month old boxer/amstaf mix yesterday. She is wonderful except for one thing. When we go for a run or a walk she feels the need to attack or run at cars that are passing by. I am hoping that once she gets used to a more rural area she will become desensitized but until then does anyone have any suggestions to break her of this.

    Thanks--

    Welcome to PetTalk!

I hope you are keeping her on a leash while you run.

When you see a car approaching, you should get her attention and keep it until the car passes. You might need to tug on the leash and offer a treat. Eventually she will look to you every time she sees a car. This will definitely be a long-term process. I would try to run on a less traveled route to start with.

Maybe someone else will have a better plan. Anyone??

    That's good advice.

Tobey used to do much the same but using the lead tugging technique and praising him seems to have done the trick
