Just the though of a cat being kicked brought tears to my eyes. I want to just pick up Bastet and hug her and kiss her and tell her that not all people would even think of doing that to such a precious creature.
And I hope your emotional scars are not too deep either. It is hard to not be afraid after such an incident.

How ghastly. Unfortunately...the kind of person who buglarizes is unlikely to be a very empathetic and sensitive person.
(My apartment was buglarized years ago. The police thought...but couldn't prove..... it was my landlord...I moved.)
Hopefully Bastet will not be too traumatized. How about you? I remember the horrible feeling I had thinking someone had been in my home.... touched my things....violated me in a way.
There are some inexpensive alarm-type systems out there.....

Thankyou so much for all your hearfelt support! I am still emotionally strung out especially about Bastet. I am glad I wasn't home though. Imagine if they could kick a cat what they would do to a woman you know.
She is much better in herself today. I think that she will be wary around strangers from now on. Since she acts like a cat-dog - that is more than likely why they kicked her. She hisses and growls and goes furry with strangers to give them a warning that they are encroaching on my/her territory upstairs.
I am glad she wasn't seriously hurt.
As for me, I am going to see my psychiatrist on Wednesday next week - just so I know in myself I am ok. I just feel so violated and disgusted by the whole thing.

I am SO sorry to hear about your break-in and even ANGRIER that those bastards kicked poor, sweet innocent Bastet. I'm glad she's okay. I think it's very smart of you to visit your psychiatrist. I'd do the same thing if I were in your shoes. My shrink is my best friend (well, sort of anyway).
I was broken into once years ago. I was fortunate in that I didn't have cats at the time. But just the thought of someone rummaging around my apartment and getting into my "stuff" made me feel violated.
Hang in there! We're here for you. Give Bastet a kiss and huggies from me and my furkids, okay??

Just to keep everyone updated :
Bastet is back to her usual nawtee self. she just chased a gekko up the wall and ignored me today when I walked through the door. She also was begging for food and being a very helpful kitty by making sure I don't fall down the stairs while walking down them.
Thankyou so much for all your supportI feel much better now that it doesn't look like Bastet is badly injured. I don't have to watch her now at night. I think I might get some rest tonight since I haven't slept much in the past 2 days.

I hope you are coping as well Bastets Mum - it's got me soooo paranoid about burglaries now as Pixel is such a little thing I am always terrified of her getting hurt!

I didn't mean to get you paranoid Itty Bitty! So sorry for that.
Jen thanks for asking. I will be better after a good nights sleep since I don't have to worry about Bastet anymore. *she just dropped a mousie at my feet waiting for me to throw it *great big grins*
I fretted so much I kept on waking up every 15 minutes to check if she was breathing ok and no blood wsa anywhere ... well you know how it is with injuries or illness in a family pet. The vet said she would be ok in 24 to 48 hours - animals are great healers.
I am seeing my psychiatrist as a precautionary measure because I don't want to end up slipping backwards. I feel ok in myself - very ANGRY that they hurt Bastet and that they violated my house and property and my landlord/flatmate's property. So I am still distraught over the entire thing. More distraught that they hurt Bastet than anything else mind you. I would have been happier if they hurt me.
