We've had greyhounds, six in all, for 11 years now. I can't conceive of owning another breed as much as I admire some of them.

There is no better bred dog on the face of the earth. Their pedigrees can often be traced to the 1700s. Congenital diseases like hip dysplasia are all but unknown and they are the longest-lived of the large breeds. 12 to 14 years is common and I've even heard of a 17 year-old.

Their temperaments are placid and affectionate. They require little exercise. Most are content with a brisk walk and a 30 second sprint around the yard.

I love this breed dearly and will never share my home with anything else.
