Benjamin has never been a small rat; whether it be that he eats too much or that he's just that way, or a mixture of the two. Everyday at playtime, I give the rats a good rub down. They love it because it feels so good, but that's my way of checking for lumps. I've felt a few "lumpy" lumps, rather squishy. I've just always assumed they were fat build ups, but nothing ever too big to worry about because they never got hard. On Saturday morning, I noticed something under Benjamin's left arm. As I felt, I thought it was part of his arm. However, Brittany informed me last night that it was a mass. Her best guess is an attached mass, maybe to his rib cage. We don't think it's an abscess because it's HARD.
Sunday, it seemed the same. No bigger, no smaller. Today, during a playtime with just him, it's getting bigger.So within less than 3 days, it's grown so big. We have an appointment for him tomorrow at 3:30. My dad will be taking him in because I have to work. What if it is an attached mass? I know I'd defintely get it removed if it was unattached, but attached, it just seems like it would be so painful for him. He'll be 1.5 years old October 2nd this year. That's not old at all. Not close to two, and he's already developing problems. How could this be? My baby.
For two days, all I've been doing is praying that he'll get better. Praying that it's not a mass, or one that can be removed. All I've been able to do is bury my face into his fur, such a good boy.
If you could spare a few good wishes for Benjamin, we'd greatly appreciate it.
I'll see if I can get a picture of his lump to show you how big it is; I just don't want to disturb him or make him any more uncomfortable than he might be.
