Thread: Male or Female? Who's sweeter?

  1. #31
Hmmmm...in my house...it is a tie! They are both equally sweet. They both jump on your lap and purr away, and they both love visitors. Gunniess was more easy to adapt to Dandy, than Dandy to Guinness, so in that reguard...Guinness. He has NEVER hissed either...at anyone, but Dandy has hissed at Dale and Guinness, when we first brought him home.

    I really couldn't decided who is friendlier...like i said, a tie!!

I have to say our found stray "Sunny" (a big white and orange boy) is sweeter in general than our little tiny 14 year old girl "Silver". But she is unique in that she is afraid of most people (except me whom SHE adopted). She expresses her fear by snarling and sounding like a wild cat! She has never let any other cat touch her, but she allows "Sunny" to give her kisses for exactly 45 seconds before she goes into attack mode. He Jumps and backs away.

Meko is my first cat i am keeping, although i worked as a vet tech for years, volunteer at a couple local animal shelters & have had quite a few rescue/fosterers and I would say out of the majority, males are more cuddly & nicer.

Meko though is a female (shes only 5 months old though) but she is especially sweet compared to most females, I spend a bunch of time w/ her though & she knows a few tricks (shake paws, sit pretty, come when called, not to beg, & sit).
Soar high & free my sweet fur angels. I love you Nanook & Raustyk... forever & ever.

how did you teach her to shake paws? I have taught mine to fetch, beg, talk, and follow me around the house. I can not teach either to shake...

    male/female - who is sweeter

    Hello Kathy:

I have had seven cats at different times. Some were Siamese.
I would say overall that sex doesn't matter. Although cats develop attachment to one person (show most of their affection to one). I did have a female Siamese who did this with my husband, but overall I would say sex doesn't matter.

    I have had both male/female

    Sincerely,

    Miss Tobina

From my experience with my two current cats, females are sweeter. Nicodemus (female) is really sweet and cuddles with me every time I sit down (and looks happy and content and purrs wether I pet her or not) and sleeps with me every night. Tobias (male) on the other hand, most of the time keeps to himself and only on the very rare occasion will come and cuddle with me (generally only when he's cold after I've given him a bath). So I'd have to say that females are definately sweeter.
Also, my family have owned quite a few cats and it's been the females who have been consistenly the sweeter cat.

I have only had girlie cats both of whom I absolutely adore, however.....Gigi was always determined to intervene when it came to my love life and frequently caused trouble if ever I had a boyfriend. When the poor guy in question was invited to sit on my sofa (I guess with the silly idea that he would be sitting with me), Gigi would appear out of nowhere and drape herself across his lap, whilst gazing up at him in an adoring fashion, and demanding to be stroked, and of course totally ignore me! If that failed she would just sit between us and refuse to move! Bless her. I wouldn't have swapped her for any male!

LOL Julie that is SO funny! There is a cartoon that runs in our newspapers called "Kit 'N' Carlyle". It's about a funny little black and white cat whose mission in life is to protect her mommy and also to fool her into giving her all the treats possible. Your story reminded me of her because the kitty is always picking on the guys that come over.

Darrolanne, Gigi was a very cheeky and rather clever cat and she was always possessive with me. She never minded my girlfriends but she just did not like me to have a boyfriend. I broke up with my last boyfriend over a year ago but we are still friends. He confessed to me the other day that he was always jealous of the love and attention I gave my girls and felt he never had his fair share! I said sorry, but my cats come first!!!! And he has always maintained that me and Gigi are 'two peas in a pod'!

    Male or Female? Who's sweeter?

I have both a male and a female kitten. They are both 8 mos. old. I have noticed by far that the boy is much, much sweeter and more affectionate. The girl is very docile and sweet too - but more of a loner. The boy is constantly following me and jumps on my lap any chance he gets. I think males are by far more sweeter. I have also heard that from a lot of people as well. They say, hands down, males are more loving then females.

Right now we have two girls and 4 boys. I would have to say the males are snuggler. The females like to be around, but not on me. The boys are on me if there's any means to be!

I'm going to have to say Male

These are the cats that I have had the closest rapport with over the years

    • Tigger - Orange ginger male
    • Twirling - Gray fluffy male
    • Milo - Calico/Meezer girl
    • Randi - Ragdoll male

The boys win! I've loved all my cats, but you know that really, really special bond that feels extra special and close? Well, although I've almost always had girls, I seem to be closer to the boys
    !

Mum to two little humans, a very vocal 14 year old Ragdoll, and a super energetic and snuggly rescue kitten.

I'm glad everyone is still responding. I'd just love to know what is different in their 'genetic makeup' that makes to male more comfortable or sweeter or needier. I'm not sure it's 'genetic makeup' but I don't know what else to call it. It seems pretty consistent that males are just sweeter tho I hate to make generalizations.

I've always had females. My female cats have totally different personalities and have also changed somewhat as they have aged. Tammy, my 16+ year old, was always the "what have you done for me lately" cat. Although, outsiders always thought of her as the more affectionate, because she would come up to them instead of hide like Sheba. As Tam has gotten older, she has gotten more dependent on affection. She was never a lap cat before.

Sheba, 11+, has always been a pick up, lap sitting cat. She is a two-person cat, however. If strangers or even friends that come in the house, she hides until they leave.

Ming, 8+ months, is affectionate and a kisser, but she can just as easily bite you as kiss you. Don't know if she will outgrow this or not. Are others never were biters. She is mixed Siamese and I think this may attribute to her aggressiveness.

My tuxedo boy, Spats, is incredibly affectionate bordering on needy but when he's outside and either friends or strangers try to pet him, he will first seduce them with teasing and then smack them. I've been told about this but never really seen it.

I think he is just soo territorial about me and sees everyone as a threat. Otherwise I think he would have shown this behavior to me on occassion.

I don't mean to be self-centered but I can't figure out why he's soo feisty and provocative and such a total sweetheart to me.
