Purrley, I've found that Resolve Pet Odor and Stain cleaner in the orange bottle works even on 8-hour old messes. The key is, soak the spot real good and let it sit for 10 minutes like the instructions say. Also, if your cat food contains dye, it will be harder to remove from a rug. I switched to Science Diet and haven't had any staining problems (so far...)
