Wouldn't just a warm salt water mix be easier on his gums to clean them than a strong mouthwash? I doubt he will like the mouthwash and how it makes his mouth feel. Sending healing vibes to JJJ3!

Gary i would be careful about administering herbal medicines to my cat, they are not 100 per cent proved to be safe, you would need advice from a herbalist who specialises in animal care.

There is stuff out there on the internet, i have been looking for my Ellie for her gingivitis, and it probably would suffice for Joseph as he will have sore gums, but again i would be hesitant to recommend it, for the above reasons and because i have never tried it myself on my cat yet.

Wishing Joseph all the best, i think perhaps Laura's babies suggestion of salted water would be my preferred choice, cannot hurt or go wrong with that, nothing like old fashioned remedys, they often work best, good luck, let us know how you get on, wishing Joseph a speedy recovery and relief from pain.

Get a saline rinse from the store...you can get it in the little Dristan type of bottles that give a good squirt. A doctor once told me that it's the best antiseptic going!

I think it's early days, so treatment needs to be gentle. What are the Aqui drops? They might be saline too.

I hope the injection helps dear Joseph and he feels better soon.

Gary, I have to agree with Cathy. Normal saline is not harmful at all. JJJ3 is a little older, and things take a bit longer to heal....

I agree with the salty water suggestions. I think also for like when you have wisdom teeth removed you can put a tea bag over the area to help it heal. Pretty sure dear Joseph isn't into tea though!

When my son was a baby and teething, I soothed his sore gums with a little Ora Gel. You can buy it over the counter and it numbs the sore spots on the gums. Perhaps you can put it on after the salt water rinse?

I wouldn't do this without asking the vet to make sure that it's not harmful to kitties just to be safe.
