When ever we have company Kallie usually will run off and hide somewhere. Whenever the company is gone she usually reappears within a short time. We had an unexpected visitor that was only there for a short time but after a long wait we started worrying about Kallie. We did have the door open for a long time so we were worried that she slipped by us while we were at the door talking. Then we started the search of our house looking in all of her usual hideouts and then we were getting franic because we had looked everywhere at least we thought we had. Most places I probably checked 2 or 3 times.
In our entrance way there is a half bath that has on old fashion treadle sewing machines in it. When it is folded up it makes a very compact box shaped piece of furniture that we use as a corner table in the bath. I had looked under the machine at least 3 times and recall thinking with that treadle, Which I could see, across the bottom, she couldn't get in the machine. I also recall thinking with the way things fold up there is no room inside either. Well as it turns out I was wrong on both counts. After literally tearing the house asunder I decided one last time to look under that machine and then I said what the heck, and I opened the machine door. There huddled on the treadle was kallie. Looking at the size of the opening under the bottom we still can't figure out how she got in there.
Our sweet kallie now has a small world. Since she is both deaf and blind we keep her in our Bedroom, bath, sunroom suite. She manages to find her food and litter box, but she gets disoriented from time to time, and just wanders around yowing until she find a familar spot. We are amazed at how well she does. Kallie will soon be 18, which I guess is pretty old for a cat.
