Thanks everyone. Storm really appreciates all of the gotcha day/birthday wishes. He had some treats tonight with his siblings.

He did give me quite a scare earlier tonight though. Shortly after I got home, Storm used the litter box and he had a little "cling on" on his bottom. I tried to clean it up but he started screaming. He then went to my hallway near the front door and started squatting like he was trying to poop some more. While he was doing this he started screaming in pain. He scared me so much that I thought I would have to take him to my vet tonight.

I let him continue because he was doing this over a small plastic runner and he eventually was able to pop out some small firm very wide stool pieces. They weren't rock hard though. Now he seems fine. I've already e-mailed my vet about this because he had another episode several weeks ago but he never screamed in pain. He's eating a lot of canned food mixed with water and some dry but he's also on 2.5mg of pred, folic acid, and pepcid. I wonder what's causing this or if it's just because he's getting old. I hope it'll never happen again. I've tried using pumpkin on him in the past and he hates it. Sorry if this was too much information for you.

Yikes! Ouchy poops are no fun, but we older fellows are no stranger to them. My human puts "happy tummy powder" in my special recipe (she also calls it "psyllium seed husk" or "Metameowcil") and even though I've slowed down some (my 14th purrrthday was last month!) I don't have the litterbox ouchies any more. I hope you can work out something with your human and the whitecoats that works as well for you.

    Love, Smudge
