I'm guilty too. Because none of my cats go outside, I've been lax in vaccinating them from rabies. I'm going to start updating them. Thanks for the update. I'm so sorry about your cats. It's not right. They could've easily isolated them to watch for signs of rabies rather than kill them.

    A very hard lesson learned.

That is insane. They usually quarantine animals for 10 days here if rabies is suspected, there was no reason to euthenize someone's pets just because they were bitten.

Attacking cat is still at large?

That is just so sad all around. For a person to go through, for a young person to go through, for the family to be losing their pets. Every step of the way,

Are the cats gone now? If not, I wonder if they can do a titer test to determine if their vaccines are still present in the system. And then the quarantine.

My cat buddy Mike got bitten by his own cat who was behind on his shots just a day befor he was going in for their (late) annuals.. The vet saw the bite and had to report it. Poor Klinger had to go to the pound for 10 days because Dad was late with his shots!

Even though my cat(s) are indoor they stay up-to-date on their shots. Always. That is horrible about your friends cats. I am so sorry all this happened to them.
Our goal in life should be - to be as good a person as our dog thinks we are.

Thank you for the siggy, Michelle!

No, the attack cat has been caught and euthanized.

I don't know why they didn't quarantine the cats, I'll have to ask when Nick and Jeff work together again..............

Keeping your cat's shots up to date is also a great opportunity for a wellness check - ears, teeth, weight, eyes, skin, can all hold clues to easy changes (e.g. a new feeding schedule, a vitamin) that can save you a fortune in vet bills later on. Also, bringing a cat in when they're feeling fine makes the vet less scary, and getting the cat into the carrier a lot easier!
