I agree with k9krazee.
Petfinder.com is a great place to start. You can search for a certain breed by location, even gender. So you can get a list of all female beagles for adoption, sorted by the closest to you. Couldn't be easier!

"We give dogs the time we can spare, the space we can spare and the love we can spare. And in return, dogs give us their all. It's the best deal man has ever made" - M. Facklam
"We are raised to honor all the wrong explorers and discoverers - thieves planting flags, murderers carrying crosses. Let us at last praise the colonizers of dreams."- P.S. Beagle
"All that is gold does not glitter, Not all those who wander are lost; The old that is strong does not wither, Deep roots are not reached by the frost. From the ashes a fire shall be woken, A light from the shadows shall spring; Renewed shall be blade that was broken, The crownless again shall be king." - J.R.R. Tolkien
There is an exception to your "don't buy from pet shops" rule. We have a local Petco that partners with our local animal rescue to aid in the adoptiion of Dogs and Cats. They usually appear on one of our local network TV news shows as a regular show segment and then are available at Petco for adoption. This has been a very successful program in our area.
We actually have a shop that just opened in the mall that only charges adoption fees and they get the dogs from surrounding humane societies. It's a great thing.![]()
Monica Callahan KPA-CTP *Woohoo!*
Keep an eye on your local forums, I see dogs, cats, even fish on a regular basis needing new homes.
