ok well i talked to Gabe via phone ,we have an appointment tonight at 5.45pm, i am positive something is not right in her mouth, i went to give her some food and she ran under my daughter's car, luckily she came out later and i grabbed her, she is locked inside now much to her dislike,she was eating some ham which she normally loves and eating it fine, and i thought i am panicking about nothing, but then all of sudden she gagged and ran away, in obvious pain, so i sure know something is up now.

Gabe said there can be many under lying causes, they can even be allergic to the bacteria in their mouth, she will probably be getting a long lasting steriod injection tonight, i sure hope this sorts her out, poor wee thing, she certainly is opposed to eating, and that is not my Ellie, she is usually a very good eater.

Wish us luck, and hope there is nothing else more sinister going on, will let you all know ok.

I'm sorry to hear this. Hopefully it's easily treatable and not anything serious. I'll keep her in my thoughts and prayers.

How are Ellie and Ash, Carole?

Ellie's mouth was still badly inflammed ,which is what i thought, so she the steriod injection,which she did not like one bit, Gabe said it can hurt a bit, poor wee girl, she was very quiet that night and slept well, i gave her some food before bed and she gobbled up two platefuls.

Today she has eaten well, but i can tell things are not great still, i guess it takes time,if this does not work she will need another one in a months time and then maybe steriod pills, i remember Danielle ,who did the dental telling me even when the teeth are removed sometimes this happens, some cats still get bad mouths, looks like Ellie is the unlucky one i guess.

Ash ate well yesterday, but is not eating today, i asked Gabe about him and whether i can bump his steriods up to one daily,on bad days, he said sure,so will be doing that, he may eat this afternoon though as often he does this, and makes up for it later, fingers and paws crossed.

I read that article you posted and it is a possibility isn't it? she was neglected for over six years and had no care what so ever until i rescued her,however her teeth were not in bad condition just needed a scale and polish and two removed because of the pockets of bacteria accumulating there, your guess is as good as mine,but reading that makes me wonder if that is exactly what we are dealing with ,especially as she just had the flu too despite being vaccinated.

Let us just hope recovery is on the way.

I can also report that Ellie is doing much better, when she yawns it is her big yawn again,and there seems no obvious pain, i am hoping she is turning the corner this time for good, and will no longer be bothered by this painful mouth, time will tell, and we are keeping all fingers and paws crossed she is going to be back to normal soon, she is not 100 per cent in my opinion, but certainly more like her normal self, her appetite is good, but she is more fussy than normal about her food, she is my cat that usually eats anything, she has been spoilt with lots of nice special soft fancy feast foods, and i alway's mash all her food and warm it in the microwave, which i do for all the cats, in fact i am going to mash ellie's and Ash's from now on since they are my senior kitties with mouth problems.

Decided to take Ellie back to the vet last night, she was still acting strange around her food, running away as if in pain when eating, well it turned out there is some good healing going on after all, her gums are a much paler pink and not nearly as inflammed, however Gabe said it was probably the right decision to take her back, as it could well be flaring up again and best to knock it out before that occurs, so he gave her an antibiotic jab and she is on steroid pill for fifteen days, so hopefully this will finally do the trick and Ellie will be all well again, fingers and all paws crossed here.

She is doing a lot better, there does not seem any obvious mouth discomfort anymore, however she really has a weird appetite, sometimes she is hungry as ,other times i have to stand over her and make her eat, she has become very fussy with her food, and she is one that ate almost anything, i thought the steroids would make her ravenous, almost like they have had the opposite effect really,with her and Ash being problem eaters now i am been driven up the wall with fustration lol.

Maybe the antibiotics have affected her appetite too, however she does seem ok in every other way, she weighs 3.95kgs ,the smallest of all my cats,apart from Ash, but then he has a good reason, he weighs more than her , but is a large cat ,Ellie is a small cat, the vet wants her at 4kgs, well not much chance of that happening right now,with her picking eating habits, she actually was eating better when her mouth was sore, very strange really.

Anyhow will finish her course of steroids and see how she is after that,and thank you for asking after my wee girl, very nice of you and much appreciated.
