Why would they object? Because they don't care about the animals. They care about the money, and ONLY the money. It takes effort and costs money to take a dog out of its tiny wire cage and actually clean it, and let the dog out for an hours.

I would HOPE the vets are at odds with the breeders! The vets are absolutely right - USDA "regulations" mean NOTHING when it comes to puppy mills. All puppy mills are already under the jurisdiction of the USDA, operating within its guidelines. It's a joke.

You are right. The dog breeders group is a powerful lobby($$$) & I hope
they don't get their way on this. The only lobby for the dogs is regular
people, like you & I.

Ind. Senate OKs dog breeding bill

Posted: April 7, 2009 The Indiana Senate this afternoon overwhelmingly passed legislation that would regulate commercial dog breeders.

The Senate voted 46-3 to pass House Bill 1468. The bill toughens the state's animal cruelty laws and would require all commercial breeders to register with the state and be subject to annual inspections.


Under the legislation, a commercial breeder is defined as anyone with 20 or more female dogs that are one year of age and not spayed. The bill would require such breeders to pay annual fees to help fund state inspections.

Unlike the House version of the bill, the Senate did not approve a cap on the number of dogs an owner could breed. The House bill called for a limit of 30 breeding females while the Senate version of the legislation has no cap.

HB 1468 now likely is headed to a conference committee where members of each chamber will work to reach a compromise.
