    Please don't make assumptions, this little one could have gotten out by mistake, or it could have been an outside stray someone fed. Both situations have happened in my household. It breaks everyone's heart, but just pray for the kitty's safe passage to the bridge, and give your little ones an extra hug. They won't understand your tears, but they'll be there and will appreciate the extra attention... Have a Merry Christmas.
