Healing thoughts for you and Luke. The right meds and diet can make all the difference and give him a good quality of life for some time to come.

Keep the faith - Luke will be fine once he gets over the initial stages. Give that gorgeous boy lots of hugs and kisses for me

Prayers for your sweet Luke that he will get over this rough patch and be back home feeling much better. And more prayers for him to be sharing many years to come with you.

Mega prayers for you and Luke. I'll send you an email.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand and strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming WOO HOO - What a Ride!

Moff, I'm so sorry to hear this - I'm sending lots of positive thoughts to Luke and to you. I hope the sub q fluids and the diet will help him feel better in a few days. You will soon get used to giving it to him, but I do understand if you're worried about it.

Give Luke some scritchies and kisses from me - Fister sends headbumpies.

I also have a cat in CRF, just diagnosed three months ago, my Ash the grey kitty in my siggy is around 13 but could be nearer 15, he was a stray, so the vets are only guessing, the time he was diagnosed was during his dental, his levels also were not that high either.

I also found getting him to eat was terrible, infact he would have slowly starved to death, my vet has prescribed Anaplex, which is a steroid, you may well ask your vets opinion about this, since then he is indeed eating much better, still has on and off days, but has gained a 100grms, so that is excellent, of course they are not without side effects, but in an older cat i think the benefits out weigh the side effects ,especially when you are dealing with CRF,my Ash also has a heart murmur, he is on Fortekor as well, which lowers the blood pressure and helps the kidneys, like i said he has ups and downs, and medicating him is no fun, but it is worth it,he is doing ok so far, and i really think it is what is keeping him alive and comfortable, he can still run up the trees and he is looking well considering, although he has lost a lot of weight, that is to be expected, the other benefit for Ash is he has arthritis and it helps with the pain of that too, anyhow something worth considering maybe.
    Furangels only lent.

My sweet Luke is now at the Rainbow Bridge with his pal Leroy.

Turned out he had congestive heart failure and both lungs were filled with fluid. When they tryed to start an iv he went into respitory distress. The vet said they could still try the iv but it would most likely kill him.

I decided to let him go to the bridge in peace.

We both thank you for all the prayers and well wishes. I'm sure they kept him going way longer than if there weren't any.

    Update

Just talked to the vet and she is puzzled! She checked luke's kidney functions again and, while they are elevated, they aren't really "that high".

He still won't eat but is resting comfortably and is alert. She is wondering if he may be having a hair ball problem because there was quite a bit when he went to the bathroom. Thing is, if she treats that, he will probably get diarrhea again which started this entire thing.

But I told her to do what she needs to do to get him eating. We can work on the diarrhea again later.

He only needed fluids once over the weekend so that's good too.

So we are still in a wait and see pattern. I'll check back with her tomorrow and let you all know.

Again, thanks for the prayers and keep them coming. Luke says "thanks" for them too.
