My Ripley builds up tartar very quickly. He had his teeth cleaned 18 months ago and I recently took him in to have the vet look at two small bumps on his tail. The vet was more concerned with his teeth. He told me his gums were in bad shape and he definitely needing another cleaning and possibly some extractions.
I brought him in last Friday to have his teeth cleaned and his lumps removed. He lost 6 teeth. The vet told me that he will feel so much better now and I can tell you that his breath has improved 100%. I blame myself for not cleaning his teeth as often as I should. He said he would rather see me spend a couple of minutes each day wiping down his teeth with some gauze or tissues rather than weekly brushing them. I hope that I will do better in the future. I feel like a very bad dog mommy.
Ripley on the other hand seems to not notice or care.
