Smudge is the same way - he gets his "gourmet food" (currently Paté Japonais, canned c/d with vitamins, medicine, and bonito flakes) for brunch and supper, but kibble the rest of the time, so what he mostly wants in the morning is affection. "Wanna curl up and nap together? Have breakfast? Maybe groom for a bit? Oh, purr purr purr - you're wonderful, purr purr purr..." Smudge is an inverse Egyptian - I think he worships me.
