The vet said that as long as he takes his steriods (taken for the inflamation) that he should be good pain wise. She told me not to carry him (it cause him to get stiff- but you know I'll have to sneak and do it every now and then cuz of those sad puppy eyes) but other than that there are no restrictions on what I can do with him. He seems to like it when I rub his leg, I think it's soothing to him so I think I'll continue to do that if the pain is too bad for him. I also got some antibiotics because the steroids lower his immune system and they wanted to cover all the bases. He seems to be feeling better since I started give him his meds.
