If you're really going to get a serval or caracal, make sure there's a vet in your area who can help you take care of these wild breeds. The zoo would be a good place to look. Also, make sure your health insurance is reliable and not some cheapie HMO that would refuse to pay for injuries incurred through improper contact with a wild animal. Any legal ambiguity at all, and most plans will drop you like a hot potato, or tangle it all up in red tape so that it won't ever get resolved until long after you'd have died of old age anyway. You won't be able to sue the breeder for damages - courts of law don't accept refusal to do the requisite homework grounds for a claim.
I realize that if you're even considering something this inadvisable, solid advice isn't really welcome anyway, but the bottom line is: DON'T.
