I am not an expert, but from my experiance Retrievers do not have white chests. I belive you may be mistaken for another breed, such as the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever, for examples of this breed see the pics below. =)

goldens can have white chests..but it is not accepted in breeding or the show ring..and is obviously not very common

Actually, Golden Retrievers can have white chests, although it is not recognized by the AKC.
