hey there autumn...
I was checking out your website and reading the description
on the Cairn Terrier. Not so sure about that "matted mess"
statement on their hair. It's been my experience that one of
the great things about a Cairn is that you get that scruffy
look without the matted mess. I take mine hiking through
mud and sticker burrs and have never had a matting problem.
The mud just drops off their fur when they dry and the sticker
burrs will easily pull out without getting entangled in their hair.
Because of the wired top coat, things don't get tight against their
skin causing a huge matting issue, like say with a Lhasa Apso
or Old English Sheepdog.
I love the scruffy look and always dreamed of having an Old
English Sheepdog, but I'm realistic about myself not being the
type of person to groom my dog everyday. So I went with the
Cairn and haven't regretted it even a moment. They have been
a hair Dream, not Nitemare.

Edited to Add: I've got a friend who's a groomer and two of her
favorite breeds to groom are Westies and Cairns. Due to ease
of hair and their good attitude about being groomed.
