Brianna, I understand your concern about his wellfare, but he sounds like he will probably be very adoptable once he's cleaned up. If he goes to a shelter they will take care of his vet care, food and shelter. And just because it's a kill shelter, doesn't mean he will be automatically killed, shelters usually allow several months in which to try to find a home. A small dog with a good temperment stands a pretty good chance of being adopted. You could always work hard at trying to find someone to adopt him - put up signs, talk to people. Don't assume the shelter is the worst thing that could happen to him - he would get the care he needs, and have a good chance of finding a forever home.When you are an adult with your own place & income, you will have more options. Your heart is in the right place!
