Hi Will, welcome to pet talk. This would be a good question for a vet. I am uncertain if the panleukopenia (sp?) virus can live in the environment or if it needs a live host. You'd be better off knowing the facts before getting new kitties.

Any age cat woiuld be good to adopt, but I personally suggest an adult. First, you can judge its character much more reliably. But more importantly, many very deserving adults go unnoticed and it is sad. And adopt 2 if you can. Each animal deserves to have company of their own species.
