So today we learn that the myth about the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow is just that - a myth; or, to be more blunt a lie. Find the end of a rainbow and you will not find a pot of gold, but rather a cat, a black and white cat; to be precise: a cat named Tippy.
And, if Tippy is to spend all of his life indoors, will the rainbow disappear?
Yet, I must confess that I keep the three younger cats indoors at all times, due to tragedies that befell two indoor/outdoor cats. Yet, my older cats, set in their ways, go in and out at will and both are getting quite old and there are many indoor cats who will never see their years.
Then there was the time that the oldest of the young cats managed to slip outside, unseen by anyone. Poor calico! She had no experience out there and did not know what to do and everything was frightening and even when help was right at hand, she fled from it and in the middle of the night, she passed right by the porch but did not know it and scampered off into the woods and when, almost by a miracle, we got her back after she had been missing for seven weeks and two days, she was but a bag of bones, afflicted by jaundice and fatty liver syndrome and had to time in the hospital, fighting for life.
And this whole, terrible ordeal could have been avoided if she had but had the education an indoor/outdoor cat.
So there are no guarantees, either way; it is a matter of the safe life, or the life of spice. Life would be safer for me if I stayed home and on the ground, but I choose to move about, to fly, and I have only crashed once and even then I walked away. Others I know have died - still, in life they lived.
Now, if only someone would buy me a new airplane. I took the calico flying, once. She did quite well. Now, I must go. The black cat, an indoor cat who wants to be an outdoor cat, has a booster shot scheduled in just 15 minutes.
