Oh he's ADORABLE!!!!! He looks like Emma's Nelly when he was a baby! If your little *boy* brightens up as he gets older, he would most likely be a boy, but if his colors remain as they are, he just might be a little girl! Muffin's bright because she's a pearl cockatiel, but Charlie's a normal grey, so the brightening of the face is an indication of whether the bird is a male or female. If he brightens up after maturity, he's most likely a male. He looks like a baby at this point though. Just wondering..............did you name him Charlie after Trayi's tiel Charlie Sweet?

BCBlondie, cockatiels aren't *noisy* in general, when comparing to birds like conures, etc. but they do have their moments. My birds are quiet most of the time, and other than a few chirps/songs during the day, they don't say much. Very rarely do they talk to the point that it would get annoying. It certainly depends on the bird though. Some are more vocal than others, but in general, cockatiels have a very sweet voice (when they aren't screaming ) that is quite pleasant to the ears. Now when they are screaming at the top of their lungs, that is a different story, but my birds rarely do that. They only do it when a certain blue jay comes into our backyard and calls them. They have to call him back. Females are quiet in comparison to males too.
