Romeo is absolutely beautiful and it is very clear how much you love him and want him in your life for many years to come. As a longtime volunteer of two large Montreal rescues and 1 on the Rive Sud, I can tell you that it isn't safe to leave him outside, especially when you're away at work (and especially with our cold weather). His color will attract attention (people are always calling our shelters for orange cats, and long haired ones in particular). Many animal lovers are against leaving cats outside (we wouldn't do that to a dog - leave them to defend themselves loose against cars, etc.) - and you may find one day that you can't find your cat because someone has taken him in for their own or to a shelter. Because of dangers that exist outside (predators, uncaring neighbors who poison cats because they don't want them on their property, etc.) the shelters I volunteer with have a strict policy that we don't even allow adoptions to people who will let them outside - it shortens a cat's life significantly also as they get into things that can cause disease. A cat kept indoors does not suffer to the point where the alternative is worth it. Please rethink this while you still have the choice.
