Monkeys are not domesticated. Even if he came from a breeder he might be tame but in no way is he domesticated. Perhaps you should look up the word in the dictionary. He is awfully cute though. I feel bad for the little fellow. I sure hope that chain isn't around his neck all the time. His photos make me sad.![]()

why do the pictures make you sad? He has a leash, but they had to keep the chain on him because the baby is afraid of him. I just talked to Wisdom(the person i was staying with) yesterday and he said he acts like a little puppy, like my James. *Sigh* i miss James. But, whatever...he is considered domstic. And i never planned on bringing him here. But one thing i don't understand, you can catch a wild dog and it is considered domestic, but if you catch a monkey, or a monkey that came from a breeder, why is it called wild?

I agree with Cass.. he's very cute, but I hope he doesn't have to be chained up all day. Pet Monkeys require a secure, large space to be happy and healthy.
Erm, yeah, Monkeys are wild animals. -_- When zoo-keepers raise generations of Tiger cubs in a zoo, does that make them domestic pets? no. Dogs have been domesticated for 1000's of years, so there is a difference. They are genetically different from their wild relative, Wolves.
A wild dog or wild cat (feral animals) are still domesticated. A coyote and wolf are a totally seperate thing. They are not domesticated. Monkeys are NOT domesticated, even IF they came from a breeder. Ferrets, cats, dogs, guinea pigs, horses, cattle, etc are domesticated species. Monkey, tigers, zebras etc are NOT domesticated. They may be tame (meaning less likely to bite as they were raised by/with humans) but in no way domesticated. Some wild animals are considered exotics. I do exotic animal rescue and while some of the exotics I have come in different colors (one way to know a species is domesticated) they are still exotic. Short tailed possums, hedgehogs, kinkaju's, wolf hybrids, even some hybrid cat breeds such as Bengals, Chausies and Savannah cats are considered exotic animals in some states and you must have a permit to own one.Originally Posted by Addie
Here is a very good article explaining domestication and tameness. I love this article. It is so interesting!

Addie, Cass is right about Monkies. I own a Capuchin and he is far from being domesticated. When we lived in the boonies, he ran free, friends who came to visit were always warned to NOT try and pick Mario up.Why? Because he would bite them of course. Well our house burn down a few months ago and we had to move to a small trailer just across the field from where we lived before. We had to figure out a way to capture Mario so that we could bring him with us! Get this, Mario is very friendly and will let you pet him, love on him, but he will not let you just pick him up! Anyway, Mario left the land he had lived on for so long. We thought we had lost him for good. Then we started gettting reports of Monkey sitings, he was headed toward town! Well we knew we were going to have to catch this guy, and that meant hands on! Yikes! I warned the family that one of us was probably going to get bit! Yes as much as Mario loved us he would bite us, as much as he wanted to come home to us, yes he would bite us..
It took several attempts to catch him, but one morning very early, my husband and I went and found him next to the highway. He was very thirsty and very happy to see us. I gave him a drink of gatorade, and he drank it, and I done what I knew I had to do, or perhaps chance never seeing him again. I jumped on Mario! Big mistake, big, big mistake! I tried to grab him by the back of the neck but my aim was not quite right. My thumb went right in his MOUTH! Yeap, felt like I stuck my thumb in a saw blade. Just as well to. My husband grabbed him by the back of the neck and the tail (thank god for that tail) and put him into a small pet carrier. We brought him home, put him inside the house and went to the hospital. From then on, doctors, hospitals, surgeries on my thumb, right thumb at that. Still don't have much feeling in that old thumb.
Mario, open the carrrier himself, so we had to recapture him in the house, and he is now living in his cage. He cannot run loose here, because where we are right now there is a neighbor across the street with children.
Mario is back to being his sweet loving self, loves to have his back scratched, being kissed, eating out your hand, but nobody dares try and hold him, all they have to do is look at my thumb! Lesson learned!

Thank You, kittycats_delight for my new siggy!!!
That one line made me crack up. Does Mario mark? I heard male monkeys are very territorial, and can be aggresive to men.I gave him a drink of gatorade
Addie, how often do you travel back and forth to Africa, and which part? It's one place I am dying to see!
okay, well, i sometimes get words confused...i don't know the difference from tame and Domestic...sometimes. I was really tired so i was just like...ehhh....yeah, but anyway, I went to Ghana, in the Volta region to Ho.
