Doing business on carpet, HELP!!

My first post and I need some advice, quickly!

I have a 2 y.o Flamepoint that we rescued at the shelter on 2/27/2002.
Besides her everso finicky eating ways, its been smooth
sailing since we brought her home.

However, in the middle of last night, she pooped on the carpet.
After I cleaned and took my kids to school, she found another
spot about a foot away and did the same thing.

This is only the 2nd time that I have had a cat, and dont have a clue as to what is going on.

Any suggestions, ideas, or advice would be so appreciated!!

Something in her life has changed and she no longer wants to use the litter box. It may take a while to figure out the cause. Meantime, try everything.

More love and attention, that always helps. Make sure that the box is well cleaned and fresh. Nothing scary or new in the area of the box.

Has there been any change in diet? Notice that the second offence was close to the first. She now knows that this does get your attention. Make no issue of it if it re-occurs. Never let them have a way to "pull your chain".

I take it that the stools were well formed and normal looking. If so you might be able to avoid a trip to the vet.

First, Welcome to Pet Talk!!
Bathroom behavior can be such a difficult problem to diagnose because there are so many reasons that can cause a kitty to eliminate outside of the box.
Does she seem healthy aside from the inappropriate elimination? Does she seem to strain at all?

BigCharles mentioned change and he's absolutely right...try everything you can think of. If anything..even the slightest little thing changes in a cat's environment, some cats can become upset...and they'll let you know by going outside of the box.

Any changes in your family?
Any changes in food/litter?
Is the litter clean?
Is the litter box in a quiet and isolated place?

So many questions, huh?!!

Thanks for the advice, both of you!!

Yep, there was a change, I bought scoop litter instead of what I usually purchase, duh!!!!!!!!!

We havent had her that long, so I am still getting to know her little Siamese personality.

I have changed the box to the regular litter and am hoping that she doesnt leave any more deposits in my dining room.

I really didnt say anything to her, except, "Are you throwing mommy for another loop?"

I have two kids, and having Snowy do something different is about the same when my kidlets do something different.....no big deal here, just panic and wonder what's going on!!

She is very healthy and eats normally (for her).....no leftovers and not the same food twice. Her deposits were normal looking as well.

Keep your fingers (paws) crossed!!

What a relief, huh? That new litter very well could have been the cause. She was probably thinking:
"Mommy, what is this wierd grainy stuff you put in MY box?? It's not the usual stuff!! How can that be??!! I did not tell you to change it"
LOL LOL
What a gorgeous girl she is!! Isn't it funny how picky cats can be?? Some cats could care less, while others really want things their way! It sounds like she's the type of cat that likes things to stay the same, but at least that helps explain the behavior!! I do hope that putting her 'old' litter back in the box helps! I'll keep my fingers, toes and pawsies crossed!!

You're so funny!!

Yes, Snowy is a finicky one. I have to add water to her food, she drinks all of the liquid before she eats the chunks.

The other night she went nuts: running thru the house, jumped on top of my hutch (6.5 feet high) and about did back flips.

It took me a while, then it dawned on me, that we had bought Japanese take-out........AND that is where the Animal Shelter found her!!! So, I cut up some of the chicken and added steamed white rice.....it was gone in seconds....we are still laughing!

We have no idea if she has always been a street cat or if someone got rid of her. The shelter had her for over 3 weeks and no one wanted her because of her age.

It is so wierd that the shelter found her at our favorite take-out restaurant, must have been fate!

We had professional pix done a few weeks ago and I have already submitted my pix for Cat of the Day, and am awaiting anxiously.

I am so glad that I found this site.

Welcome to Pet Talk, Patti! Your Snowy is a charmer. I didn't think of this earlier, but you might want to clean the areas where she went earlier with an enzymic (sp?) cleaner so that she will forget associating this spot as a place to eliminate. I think we all have our own opinion on these cleaners, I've had good luck with "Nature's Miracle" brand. (Clean-up after accidents of either end and for hairballs, too.)

Your snowy sure is a cutey. I don't have any other advice to give, but here's hoping the change back to her regular litter will do the trick.

Interesting, that you brought up the Miracle stuff,
one of my closest friends works for a cat adoption
agency and that is what she suggested.

What I used was "OxyClean"...takes out
all odors and stains upon contact.

Its been about 10 hours w/out any accidents!!

I am hoping for no more!!

Cats sure can be finicky stinkers! Amazing how something as simple as different litter can lead to bad bathroom behavior. I hope for you and your beautiful cat changing back did the trick! IF not I guess you'll have to bribe her with Chinese take out! (that is just to cute of a story!)
Enjoy your new family member! I for one enjoyed hearing about her antics, and seeing her picture!

Hello Patti and Welcome to Pet Talk - you'll get 'hooked' - we all did!!!
Your Snowy is so adorable - please can we see more of her.
Siamese are well known for their 'talking' and mad behaviour - well our R/B Kisi was!! When she's totally settled in - she'll give you hours of pleasure and fun.
The Chinese take-away is the sort of thing I mean!!! Completley normal behaviour for Siamese!!!

Patti, welcome to Pet Talk. Elimination problems with some of my furkids occured when they were very young. You might try placing the litter box over the inappropriate place. Cats have a sense of smell far beyond that of a human, and any time the can smell anything that reminds them of elimination, that is where it will be done. She will eventually settle down to a routine of living in the house, provided that she is not upset with too many interruptions. BTW, she is a very beautiful cat. I have a flamepoint Siamese also, his name is Snow Cat. But I have no photos of him yet.

Hi Patti - Welcome to Pet Talk - your baby is a beauty. Looks a lot like my Braydee. I had the same problem when I tried to change to a clump litter. The little hummers DO NOT LIKE CHANGE. But I can't blame them, neither do I Sounds like you've got your problem under control. Oh I thought I'd mention a good odor getter outer - put out by Hartz called HELP.
