Wolf-Q, are you a dog groomer? It would be so great if I knew how to groom Jake and even greater if I had a place like that to do it! I clipped his toenails for the first time the other day. He's 7 years old, but until now I've been too scared to do it myself. I didn't cut the quick, thank goodness.
Sounds like Nebo is blowing his coat. Wish Jake would!

and brush, I used to spy some clumps on him as he would walk
by me in the house, so I'd end up following him around picking

Smokey HATED the blow (force) dryer & actually tried to bite her
when she held him still, so she kennel dried him.He's o.k. with
my hair dryer at home, so the force dryer must have been pretty loud for him to be so scared of it.She made a note on his chart,
not to use this dryer on him in the future.

In the summer, he lays in front of the fan,and it looks like it is snowing in the living room:eek: Clumps everywhere!!!!
He hasn't started yet either.
I haven't read the replies, but in answer to your question, I'm asking a question....."do they ever stop shedding?". Not my girls!! All three of them shed hair year round! LOL!!! I'm brushing constantly and that hair keeps falling out! I keep wondering why they aren't bald by now!!! :)
Nothing like hairballs in every corner of the house!!! Somehow they always manage to float up and get in your mouth - that's just the worst.
Last time we had the dogs groomed about a month ago - I also had them give Buddy (the husky mix) a shedding treatment. It was great and he has hardly shed much since! It was $25 extra for that, but well worth it. This was done at Petco.:)
We are lucky Schnauzers do not shed, not even a hair, honestly. The only time hair comes off of them is when they are combed or brushed, of course they have to be groomed every six weeks.
But Daisy is black and she sleeps with us and you will not find one hair in our bed or anywhere in the house, the same with Perry.

Glad to hear that! :D I'm a Bath and Brusher at Petco...and I've done the "Shed-less treatment" many times. It's a LOT of work if the dog is shedding badly! I'll brush until my arm falls off, but I'm always still paranoid that the owners won't notice the difference.Quote:

Next time you take them there, try "The Works"...I did that on Nebo today, it works great! :D
Yeah, a lot of dogs get scared of it...which is unfortunate, as it works AMAZING to get out that shedding undercoat. I've had several dogs try to bite me, so I just kennel dry them too...I can imagine that it's pretty scarey to them. It is quite loud, and the air is pretty forceful.Quote:

Does he have black nails? It's harder with those...I know, it's kind of scarey...some dogs have much longer quicks then others, and if they are black, you can't tell where they are. Try just clipping a little bit at a time with one nail, and if you end up accidentally reaching the quick, it will give you an idea where the quick on the other nails are. Also if you have some QuickStop powder on hand, it will stop the bleeding instantly!Quote:

I gave Nebo a super good bath/brush-out today! WOW, you wouldn't believe the fur I got outta that boy! It's so funny, his tail is like so skinny feeling now!!
Jake's finally starting to shed! That makes me very happy, because now I know spring is finally coming.
Yes - his nails are black. But the tips were white - so I just cut off the white parts. I still think he needs more off, though because he clicks when he walks on the hardwood floors - isn't that how you tell? I'll try again today. I need to get some of that powder that stops bleeding but I haven't bought any yet.
I'm going to trim the hair on his feet today too - I hope I don't end up making him look stupid, but I want to do it myself instead of taking him to the groomer.

That may be as far as you can clip them right now....even if it's clicking on the floor. When the nails grown out, the quicks grow too, so he may have longer quicks then normal. When you clip the nails, the quick receeds a bit, so you could try trimming just a tiny bit off every few days until you get it where you want.
I used to be afraid to clip nails too...my dad clipped Reggie's nails but he only did it every 3-4 months so they'd get really long, and the quicks were super long. Since I've been clipping them every 2 weeks or so, they are at the perfect length.
For trimming the feet...do you have a slicker brush? (preferably a pretty small one) What I do is use a small slicker brush, and brush the tops of the feet backwards...it brings up all the hair between the toes. Then just take scissors and trim it off, then also just trim around his pads a bit. We also trim up the fur on the backs of the front legs legs (from the paw to that little extra pad..not sure what it's called) and kind of from the back of the heel to the foot on the back legs. Hope that made sense! :)
Malone is starting to shed. I brush him a couple of times a week, and leave masses of hair to be swept up. It seems that he is shedding mostly down his back near the rump. No matter how many times we brush him, there's still more :eek:
Ginger just started to shed about couple weeks ago she is still shedding! But that is a good thing. I don't Oscar is any yet. And Ruff he usually don't start till summer.

I used to think Labs shed a lot...UNTIL I got my Cody, a Husky/Shep! YIKES!!!! Talk about fur clumps!! :eek: Come Feb., they just start popping out from everywhere on her body; she looks like she has the mumps! Karen (KYS) and I were just talking about this the other day. We both spend evenings in front of the TV "picking" out the 1" or more wide clumpers!!:D Most of it's been plucked out now, but, on top of all that is a whole other coat of fine, fuzzy fur constantly dropping and blowing around, usually in my mouth!! When I brush her outside, it blows all around in huge clouds; the landscapers always know when it's shedding season!! I think the birds like it though for nest building!! I'm constantly walking behind her pulling out the clumps and she HATES that!! "Enough, Mom!!":D
The Inu shedding has officialy begun!!!!!
I took him outside for a full brush down today, boy was the fur flying!!!!!! Then we came inside for a trim, he stood perfectly still while I trimmed the stragglers, I just need to get between his toes. Great tip Amy--that's what I'm going to try!!!!!!
