I spoke with the vet yesterday about possibly cutting her dose of Methamizole to every other day, since her kidneys are now being compromised. I also asked him if she's in pain.

He said cutting her dose to every other day wouldn't be a problem. He said she wasn't in any pain, that kidney failure causes nausea and vomiting. She doesn't have that, so I assume it's a good sign.

The only thing I worry about is she is BONE thin. I can feel every vertebrae in her back, and her hips.

Dr. McLaughlin told me I was doing the right thing by just keeping her fed, happy and comfortable.

Sooo, she gets Paul Newmans Organic Turkey canned food at $1.09/can:eek: twice a day and she loves it. She also gets Blue Indoor Health which only has 34% protein (her kidneys can't process anything higher, and Wilderness Blue was 40% (I think).

I love her SO much!!!! The vet said she has maybe 6 months.:( I hope she proves him wrong!!

Oh, that's so good, Donna! God bless you and Murphy both, and may she continue on for a good long while yet!

You're doing everything you can for her and I hope she'll remain comfortable and will be with you much longer than your vet has predicted.:)

That's what Boo was on and he was bone thin, too. I cut his methamizole in half but gave it to him every day and it seemed to help. Hyperthyroid cats are thin and the meds will keep her heart from racing. I sure hope that she proves your vet wrong, too, Donna.

She started vomiting this morning, all frothy fluid. She eats, drinks and uses the box, so I'm now certifiably worried. If the vomiting keeps up, I'm calling the vet.

I'm so sorry to hear this.:( Your vet might suggest that you start giving her pepcid. I have to give this to Storm at night and I give him half a pill wrapped in part of a pill pocket. He doesn't have Murphy's problems but he does have tummy issues and so far it's worked out well. Good luck.:)

How is Murphy this morning, Donna? Better, I hope.

Mary,

For the most part she's okay. She sleeps alot. No one else bothers her, which is good. This old girl just wants to be left alone.

I hope she will prove the vet wrong and live another 2 years.

No more vomiting then?

Not really. Every once in a while I'll step in a wet spot I didn't know was there. She's got a great appetite. As long as she's happy, comfortable. That's what's important. I know I have to kind of prepare myself for the worst. But I've got my memories and am spoiling her rotten as we post!

She's been projectile vomiting on and off for a week. She walks around crying more than she did before, so I've got another call into the vet. She'll sit in front of me and meow. I feed her on demand. For an old broad, she's pretty demanding. I don't know what else to do for her. She has no fat or muscle left on her that's how thin she's gotten. To get a blood sample, they have to go for the carotid artery cuz her veins are so bad.

:(:(I have a gut feeling this isn't good.:(

Maybe if they give her subQ's for a couple of days that will perk her up. It sure did the trick for Boo. Of course, you don't want her to suffer but if it's just fluids she needs, you may have her for a few more months, Donna. I sure hope so. Keep the faythe.

Dr. McLaughlin just called me. I told him about her vomiting and the weakness in her legs and her lack of muscle and fat. He said that every symptom she has are the final stages of kidney failure, and there is nothing more that can be done and that "it's time". I asked him if sub-Q fluids would help and he said it would only be temporary and would probably stress her out. I am beside myself. She will be the 6th cat I've lost in a year.:(:(

I'm so upset right now I'm making myself sick. This is SO not fair!!

This is the part of cat rescue that I hate. We're so happy in the beginning b/c we see how they blossom in our care; we're almost like children, not thinking about the time that we know must come. I'm so sorry, Donna. At least you'll see to it that she'll be as comfortable as possible until it's time for her to make her final journey.

This is SO not fair! :( And poor little Murphy, having to be so sick.

I have nothing to offer but the possibility of a second opinion...but you know this vet well.

{{{hugs}}} to you...I am so sorry you are going through this again.

I'm so sorry to hear about Murphy. It's sometimes so hard knowing what to do for our pets, as we love them so much. We want to give them every chance to live, but at the same time we don't want them to suffer. I'm saying a prayer and sending positive thoughts for you and Murphy. Look for signs from Murphy, too. Hugs.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Have comfort in knowing that Murphy is playing like a new kitten at the Rainbow Bridge and not suffering anymore.

I'm taking Murphy to the vet this morning at 11. I'm so torn right now. She was vomiting again last night. Because of her weight and frailty, it must hurt her.

I'll post more when I get back from the vet. Prayers needed.
