This
is Honker, a female Mallard duck, age unknown at time of photo,
taken in the 1970s.
Honker was a wild Mallard duck that I tamed as a child. She had a
crest on her head, and I found this tiny hat that I would have her
wear for pictures. I spent a lot of time with her, and eventually her
children, as she let me close to them, and I tamed some of them also.
Honker seemed to be an old duck, not able to handle the cold rough
winters, so we kept her and her mate, Bonker, in our cellar for the
winter.
Honker always seemed to have ducklings every year, and each year
always had one with that famous crest on it's head, to carry on the
family name.
