We
rescued "Pookie" from the Humane Society two years ago, when he only
weighed about 85 pounds. He now weighs 137 pounds and is a very important
part of our family. We don't know what kind of mix he is for sure, but
probably Akita and Golden Retriever.
He was probably only about 8 months old when we first got him, and we were
his fourth home! I don't know how anyone could abandon him, because from
the time we got him he was extremely well-trained and very people-oriented.
We can leave plates with food on them on the floor in the living room and
go to get something in the kitchen and he won't touch the plates! He
"talks" to us and understands a lot of what we say; he is quite intuitive
and very sensitive despite his size.
It took him a while to trust us and settle in, but now, after two years, he
finally seems to feel secure that this is home.
