Pirate had to go to the vet yesterday for some bloodwork. My vet wouldn't give me any more meds for her until she had bloodwork done.

She was not happy. She flipped out when I tried to put her in the truck. It took me a minute to realize that she doesn't spend much time in the front part of the yard--she can see her old home from there. I'm sure she thought I was trying to take her back there and she wanted no part of that! Once we got by that place, she laid down and napped in the back seat. She did not freak out at the clinic; she didn't pee all over the lobby and she didn't try to nip the tech who did the blood draw, all three of which she did last time we were there! She was fine getting back in the truck after her appointment. Maybe she believed me when I told her we were going home and she could spend the afternoon inside!

Dr. Rick just called with her results and everything is perfect. All her values are right in the middle of the normal range! She doesn't have to go back for at least six months and she can keep taking her meds at the current doses, which are working wonders for her!

Now she can continue with her busy lounging schedule!

I heard her voice yesterday for the first time, when she told Ozzy in no uncertain terms that she was not sharing her water bowl!

Yay Pirate!!
I'm so happy she is doing so well. Pirate, you make sure to let those others know you have a voice and won't hesitate to use it.
I bet it startled you at first to hear her!

She shares the big bowl with all the yard dogs, but this one had baited water in it. Baited with Ol' Roy Puppy Crack. Pirate loves baited water, no matter what I put in it. I think it reminds her of her younger, working dog days.

I actually started to tell Mac and Ozzy to knock it off! Never occurred to me that it could be Pirate snarling!

This makes me smile too! I'm so happy for her, what a great home you've given her! Now that she's been with you a bit, do you still think she's stone deaf? At least she's talking, taking care of business. ;)

I am glad Pirate's bloodwork came out fine. She deserves to be able to enjoy her retirement years - thanks for giving her that chance.

Now that she's been with you a bit, do you still think she's stone deaf?

More or less. She hears very loud, sudden sounds, like when I drop a metal dish. She doesn't respond to a normal tone of voice at all, unless she's looking at me. She makes alot of eye contact. As long as she looking at me, she seems to be able to figure out what I want from her. She's picked up a few hand signals too.

Glacier, it's so awesome that you've given Pirate such an amazing home to be comfortable in; she's so lucky to have found you. :) I'm glad to hear that she is doing so much better than when she first went to the white coats.

It's great to hear how well she's doing in a loving home. Poor girl, thought she was going back to the yucky place where she used to "live." She's beautiful, Tamara. :) Thanks for sharing her progress with us!

I love warm fuzzy stories with happy endings.

Pirate - special angels brought you to your new home - and aren't you the lucky girl in every way?

Tamara - it must be so heartwarming to have all of this good news. Congratulations.

I think that should actually be, Yay Tamara! You have been such an angel for this pretty girl, and I think her response to the truck lets you know how much she appreciates her new home. It's so nice to know that this sweet girl is learning what it is like to live in a loving home.

Like Gini, I also like warm fuzzy stories, with happy endings. I dare say, Pirate has it better now than at any time in her life.

Any idea if her previous owners know she is thriving now?

Any idea if her previous owners know she is thriving now?

I don't talk to them to anymore so I haven't told them. I wouldn't be suprised if they heard me calling her....why do I bother calling a deaf dog? Their son drove by me on Monday while I had Pirate in the truck, but she was laying down.
