i bought two fish from Wal-Mart today. i bought them because i think they are pregnant and i don't think Wal-Mart is a proper place for fish babies. i'm not sure what kind of fish they are or how to take care of them and their babies. both of them are whitish with orange tails. i have them in my 5 gallon tank with a marble mollie i bought as well.(not pregnant).

what kind of fish do i have?
how do i care for the fish and their babies?

pics of the fish. i saw a couple baby fish this morning. i don't know what to do! i'm freakin out!

Do you have any pictures? That might help us determine what kind of fish they are.

Pictures would help alot. You could go to either Petco.com (http://www.petco.com) or PetSmart.com (http://www.petsmart.com) and if they have a list of fish, you could see which ones you have. You could also search on Google (http://www.google.com) for a list of fish, and see which kinds you have. :)

Yep, pics would help:) I am not good with fish, but I just thought I should say that it is awesome that you are taking them in! I wish you luck, and keep us updated.

They definitely look like Platys to me. W*M didn't even tell you what they were?

Don't panic, there's no need to freak out. Unless you want more Platys and you isolate the fry and Moms in breeding traps, the Mom and other Platys withh eat the babies. If you do want to keep them, you'll need breeding traps that will isolate the fry from Mom. For feeding, I recommend Hikari First Bites or Liquid Fry Food (at Petsmart), or crushed tropical flakes.

no. they didn't tell me what they were. they didn't know. i thought they were platys at first, but they are bigger tha the platys i had before. i really don't want more platys, but i want to save some if i can and find homes for them. can i wait till the babies are born and switch momma to another tank? i can't get to a pet store for another couple days. i think the mollie and the two platys ate the babies i saw earlier. i've been checking on the last momma all day to see if any more show up. can the babies eat finely chopped flakes? a fish forum said they could, but i want to know what you think.

Those are platies. The babies can eat crushed flake food, just crush it in your fingers. Are both females? Females have the round anal fins. They can get to 3 inches when fully grown.
