About Us
Gypsy, the Pet of the Day
Name: Gypsy
Age: Four years old
Gender: Male
Kind: Umbrella Cockatoo
Home: Butler, Pennsylvania, USA

I got Gypsy as a second-hand bird several months ago. Although he was neglected in his previous home he is the sweetest bird I know. His previous owner, and elderly lady, bought him to breed. However, the bird was not nearly old enough. Plus, this lady was very fearful of him and had very little interaction with him.

He doesn't talk, but he does do the sweetest little "Too groans" He has a deep scruffy voice that is so pathetic he just melts your heart. He still doesn't like to be held, but he will let you pet him on top of his cage for hours. He puts his head down to pet him and will practically fall over because he gets so entranced and relaxed with the "Scritching."

He is absolutely beautiful. His crest stands so tall and proud when he goes into full display, and does his "bunny hops" across the top of the cage. Sometimes he does his normal "scream" but I also hear a lot of "Donkey Brays" lately. You would swear I have a donkey in my living room! This just makes his personality seem even more sweeter to me.

I have made a lot of progress with Gypsy in the last few months. His favorite thing to do is to destroy Wood. He doesn't care if it's scraps of wood, or my Mother's antique chest. It is all the same to him! He's even tried to pull the window sill out of the wall. You can be so mad and all he has to do is put his head down for a scritch and all is forgotten. If all birds were as sweet and lovable as this one every one would own one!
