It started this afternoon. I went to take of his belly wrap to let him out around 1:30 and OMG his leg was giant! It looked like he had a softball lodged in his upper left leg. Of course I called the vet and she said to come right down and give him some benadryl in case he had gotten a bee sting or something. I took two quick pictures before we left of his leg. You can't tell from the way he's laying quite as much as you can when he stands, but he couldn't stand well enough for me to take it then.
and this is his leg and foot swelled
of course like I said it doesn't look half as bad in the pictures as it does in real life
The vet gave him a shot of epinifrin (sp?) and a benadry. He had a temp of 104 and his breathing was pretty heavy and so was his heartbeat. She said if he didn't feel better after a couple hours to bring him back into the office.
I went to work because Mark was here to keep an eye on him but everyone (including Mark) told me I should be at home. I figured there must be a reason everyone was saying that so I went home and sure enough Mark called while I was on my way and said the vet told him to bring Angus back in.
Poor old man, he couldn't even walkWe had to use a towel under his hindquarters and I picked up his front part and we carried him to the car. His foot (on the swolen leg) kept bending under...like he had no control over it. So we put him on the big sheet in the back of the durango and when we got there we just used it to pull him out, then Mark and Dr Walker carried him into the office.
She put in an IV because he was a little dehydrated and she wanted to give him some antibiotics. She also gave him a mild sedative to "take the edge off" and so she could do an X-ray. Of course, she didn't see anything in it so we really have no idea what is wrong (she also checked to see if there was any fluid in it but there wasn't)![]()
She said after she talks with the other two vets there she will give me a call and let me know if he can come home or not. I'm just hoping it was a bad reaction to a sting or something. Whatever it is please pray he is fine and gets to come home tomorrow.
He was sleeping (or should I say "out of it") when we left so I know he will be snoozing good tonight. I'll update when I find something out.
