    Help for dogs in China?

A member posted this thread in pet general:
    http://petoftheday.com/talk/showthre...threadid=44812

She is from China, and doesn't write in perfect English, but what I can gather is that if people don't licence their dog in China (and many people can't afford it) then the government comes and takes away their dogs and destroys them!

This really upsets me! How can we help! They aren't just taking strays to be destroyed, but they are taking away people's pets! I'm not the only one who cares am I?

EDIT: Here's an article about it that I found: http://www1.chinadaily.com.cn/en/doc...ent_263566.htm

I'm glad you put this here! I knew no one would see it in the rescue part. I'm thinking if we can get the address to police maybe? of where to send snail mail. It's much more convincing than a spam email that can easily be deleted. I was wondering also if someone could set up a fund at a bank in China and we could send donations. Don't know how to arrange all this, though. And if we did set up donation account, how could we make sure that the people that needed it got it?

But the pain is very deep.

It will be alright, to my dog as dark as night.

I'm glad you care too dukedogsmom!!!

That's a good idea to write a letter. We'd have to get lots of people to back us up. Then there's the fact that I don't know Chinese. But I'm sure that many people in China know English, right? I mean, several posters here are from China and Asia and can write in English.

It'd be really great if we could set up an account to buy dog licences for people who can't afford them. Maybe if we contact the ASPCA or something?

edit, I found an article about this in a google search. I added it in the first post.

Bumping this up. This has become a real concern for me. We need solutions.

Okay, I found some organizations that might be able to help. They were recommended on the ASPCA website for international animal cruelty. (the ASPCA only helps in the US) None of the sites mention this situation, but we can write to them and maybe they'll help!

International Fund for Animals - seems especially promising since they have a headquarter in China (click on 'contact us' to email them)

World Society for the Protection of Animals - one of their campaigns already is the dog meat-market in east asia, so perhaps they'd help out in china too (click on 'contact us' to email them)

Humane Society International - the International devision of the HSUS. Looks like it might be promising... (scroll down and click on 'HSI Offices and Staff' to email them)

Now I have to come up with a good letter to send them. Maybe if we all send letters? We could help each other write them, like what to include and stuff. I don't know if they will help directly, or maybe they'd tell us what to do, like who to write to, ect. There must be a Humane Society of some sorts in China. Maybe they could help us with donations, ect.

So, is anyone else interested in helping besides dukedogsmom and me?

I am sorry, I am just now seeing this post.
Count me in for the letter writing. Perhaps Molly (mugsy) could write a letter for us. She is really good and always gets her point accross.

Oh yay! I'm glad you guys want to help too!

On the International Fund for Animals website that I listed before, I found this page: http://www.ifaw.org/ifaw/general/default.aspx?oid=11394
It's about a group they have in China already that helps with dogs and cats. It mentions the situation at the bottom, and says that the price to licence a dog is $600-$250! It doesn't say if the group in China is actively helping with this, but if they knew that more people were concerned then maybe they would.
