Then Someone asked "Would you rather them test on Humans?"

    My response:
YES. Animals were here first. An animals life is just as important as a human's life. I'm pretty damn sure a dog, monkey, rat or cat don't need clorox, pinesol or any other of those foolish company's products.

We humans do. So, Humans should test them.

If a company thinks their product is unsafe to the point where they have to test it on an animal then it SHOULD NOT go out on the market.

What Do you think? Feel free to contact any of these companies and refuse to use their products until they stop tsting on animals.

Thanks for the heads up! I'll be emailing some of the companies. I hope other people here do too...That way it won't just be acouple people and they won't stop to think.

I was thinking about using neutrogena -- guess I won't be doing that anymore. Johnson's and Johnson's is crap anyways -- A baby drank some baby oil by them and almost died. Now he's deformed and has mental problems. Playtex sucks too! lol. My mom buys arm and hammer. Finally a good reason to make her stop -- she uses that smelly stuff you put on the carpets and I think it just smells terrible!!

Don't buy that at all. Can you please support this statement with evidence? Surely there should be some if this truly happened, because the parents would have sued the company. And it would have been on the news nationwide. I don't buy this one bit- yeah, like the company would make harmful baby products.

He wouldn't be deformed from poisoning either...

Anoter thing, if that event really did happen, it is not the companies fault, it's the dumb parents who left the bottle in reach of a small child. If the parents were smart it would be locked up or placed up high. It's not like the company president filled up a bottle and said "here, drink this kiddo."

No matter how hard people try, there is no way to make everything baby/kid safe in this world, it's impossible.

It was on Oprah, so no I don't have any websites that will tell you about it but feel free to do a search. And he was deformed because he was a newborn baby, having his first bath. He drank the water in the bath tub. The oil did something to the way his body grows or something. They showed his twin brother and him, who had looked very much the same at birth, and the brother was good and tall and healthy, and the one who drank the oil was very small and wouldn't grow anymore, and his skin was wrinkly all over. It stunted his growth or something. I can't really remember to well, it was so long ago, but I'll ask my mom when she gets home, she'll know.

Ok I just asked my mom. She said that he wasn't a newborn like I thought I'd remembered, he was 18 months old. They DID sue the company, but because this was in the 80's they weren't able to get rid of the product like you would be able to nowadays. She said that the oil made him physically and mentally disabled. She said it stunted his growth, so his bones were very thin and fragile. And she said it was not Oprah, but another talk show that she can't remember. He was 8 years old on the show, but he was the size of a toddler.

The list Kay posted is originally from this site: http://www.peta.org/mall/cc/cctest.html

If you intend to buy 'cruelty-free' you should bookmark PETA's site as it is updated *at least* yearly.

Also helpful is the "Companies That Don't Test" list located here:

    Becareful in using that list...

Bath and BodyWorks appears on the link above however if you read the label on their product, it states, "THIS FINISHED PRODUCT NOT TESTED ON ANIMALS."

I love the Tom's of Maine and the St. Ives products!!

Good to know, thanks Zippy! I've never used B&BW before-- it's not very popular in Hawai'i. Also I'm afraid of smelling too strong or fruity --- bees might attack me! LOL
    Hey-- it's happened before!!!

I take most information from PETA with a grain of salt. I do check labels for any shampoo, etc. that I buy, and make sure it states that it's not tested on animals.

I wouldn't mind them "testing" by giving a dog or a bunny a bath, but Miss Hoppy would object! I have (absurdly) sensitive skin, don't ever wear make-up, and simply don't believe in pain for beauty's sake - mine, an animal's or anyone else's!

You're more apt to believe a label that a company puts there itself than a group with OBVIOUS motivation to truly find out who is testing on animals? I can understand taking OTHER PETA information "with a grain of salt" but in this case I think they are the ultimate resource!

Labels can be very sneaky and some companies can say "against animal testing" (that's kind of vague, so did you test this product on animals or not?) or "not tested on animals" and still buy ingredients or components that OTHER companies test on animals.

Not trying to be rude, I just fail to see your logic here.

When I first learned about the extent of animal testing that
went on & specifically, what it involved for the animal's used,
I printed out the list of companies that use animal testing &
made a concious effort to avoid buying their products,I had to
stop using my favorite shampoo(Pantene Pro-V). Hey, Alberto
VO 5 is just as good and isn't tested on animals.
