Sometime in January of 1998, you were born. In March we went to the shelter looking for a new buddy for Buttons after he lost his best friend. I'll never forget the first time I saw you, you were the cutest little white ball of fluff I had ever seen! Our hearts melted, and we decided you would be ours forever. When we brought you home a few days later, we let you loose with Buttons out in the front yard. You were scared of him, a little Dachshund, and you ran under the car. After a while you decided to come out, and you grew to like Buttons, and then, eventually, grew to think of him as a menace!
Time passed but nothing changed except we grew together. You have been there for me through some truly hard times and have pulled me through everytime. No words can thank you for the friendship you've given me. You were my first dog that was all mine, and we did everything together. And now, as you turn 8 years old, I see you fading into old age. You do not look old, but more dignified and lovely.
Mandy, my sweet girl, you mean the world to me. I hope that you know that. I hope that you know Nova and Luka are not loved more than you, just differently. I hope that you know that you were my best friend growing up, and that I can never ever forget you. But most of all, I hope you know I love you. Because you mean everything to me. My life would not be complete without you.
Tomorrow we will celebrate our birthday together. We will get cake and presents, and you will get lots of kisses.
Happy birthday Mandy!
