Hello everybody!
My name is Donna, I am currently a first year graduate student living in Washington D.C. My fiancé, Zach, and I live together with our two dogs and two cats. We also have three chinchillas as well. All of our animals mean the world to Zach and I. The first addition to our family began with Dachi, our lovely chinchilla, in 2008 when we were freshmen in college. We got her from the shelter, a month later we found out that she was pregnant and gave birth to two babies! Unfortunately, Zach became allergic to them. On the bright side, my parents wanted them. I still get to see them when I visit home.
A year after getting Dachi, Zach knew I have always wanted a dog since I never had one growing up. He found Beijing in a local shelter and decided to buy her for my birthday, which was a surprise! We were a tad bit nervous owning a dog since we were in our second year of college, but everything was fine. She made a lot of friends and dog-friends on campus. A year later, Zach found a pure breed shar-pei (Shanghai) outside on the streets and decided to take her in after finding out that her owner died and she ran away from home. She made a great addition to the family – always brightening our day with her personality.
Even though we had two dogs, Zach felt something was missing because he grew up with cats. He decided to get a kitten earlier in 2011 without telling me. I did not take it well for a while but then I loved the cat. We figured the cat needed a companion and got another kitten a couple of months ago. They both make a great companion!
