As for the philosophical meaning of "Jimmy Crack Corn", I think it's up there with David Allen Coe's perfect country song "You Never Even Call Me By My Name" and "Margaritaville."

My son Carl (when he was 3 or 4 years old) would laugh uncontollably every time I got to the "I don't care" part. He loved "Old Dan Tucker" too, as I recall.

I learned to play guitar with a Pete Seeger book of folk songs.

    HAHAHAHAH....

I see, bring up the guitar while you are sick so I won't ask you to entertain.....I was going to make you do a few tunes for us......but.....

    Next time!

While we're at it, do you remember the NYPD Blue show where Sippoweitz kept asking everyone what "pop goes the weasel" meant?

I recall something about "macaronies" being young English playboys. Must be a reference to that???

I can only sing Rod Stewart songs when my voice is like this. Maybe Louis Armstrong...

" you lookin' good...swayin'...while the band's playin'...one a them old familiar songs from way back when..." (voice cracks)

So, I should be on the stage...there's one leaving in an hour?

Or...you should be on the radio...so we can change stations?

I always liked "can you sing Far, Far Away?"

I'll do one more, anyway..Thank you...Thank you very much.

"Scotch and soda, mud in your eye...baby, do I feel high...oh, me...oh, my...do I feel high.

"Dry martini...jigger of gin...oh, what a spell you got me in. Oh, my...do I feel high."

All I remember about ol' Dan Tucker was that he combed his hair with a wagon wheel and died with a toothache in his heal. My late husband used to know all the words but occasionally would add his own "dirty" verses I also remember that the reason nobody cared about whether Jimmy cracked corn was because his master had gone away.... amazing what the mind collects and yet I can't always remember to take out the trash on trash days Moving day at the office for me so I'll be drinking and driving my stuff to "the other side" most of the day. Set 'em up Mr/Ms bartender. WOWZERS, that tall white Russian sounds perfect!

    (still singing "Scotch and Soda")

"People won't believe me...they'll think that I'm just braggin'...but I could feel...the way I do...and still be on the wagon.

    "All I need is...one of your smiles...sunshine of your eye...oh, me...oh, my...do I feel...higher than a kite can fly...give me lovin'...baby, I feel high."

Willie, I just noticed you on my lap. Are you part Cheshire cat?

    Coffee with kahlua, anyone?

Morning to you. It looks nasty over here on the east coast, as well. Yep, I watched Survivor. Wasn't as good as I thought it was going to be, though. Sue just lost it. Also, they were supposed to be on the early show on CBS. Wish I could have seen that!

I did the right thing by setting you free
But the pain is very deep.
If only I could turn back time, forever, you I'd keep.
    I miss you

I hear you whimper in your sleep
I gently pet you and say, no bad dreams
It will be alright, to my dog as dark as night.

Fur as dark as the night.
    Join me on this flight.
Paws of love that follow me.
In my heart you'll forever be.

How I wish I could hold you near.
Turn back time to make it so.
Hug you close and never let go.

    sorry, didn't watch Survivor - I'm currently working through my season-5 DVD's of Stargate-SG1.

and just who is in the kitchen with Dinah - and why are they strumming on their banjo?

coffee and kahlua sound good - its raining here too. But the crocuses are blooming and so are some of the early daffodils so spring is on the way

These are not the droids you were looking for

Yeah! It's spring here too! I noticed a few green things sprouting up too. Terry says "what are they?" I say "I have no idea. Don't you remember what we planted last fall?"

Then as I was leaving this morning, I noticed that some of the neighbor's daffodils are about ready to pop open!!! I was happy with little green stubs and they have flowers about to bloom! How do they do that?

Anyway, I'll have a DOTD. I've really been feeling crappy lately (sinuses - ugh) so I think I'm going to need the sugar buzz to get me through the day.

Good morning everyone - it's Friday and that makes me happy.

You all are talking about spring and new growth. I have a large old maple tree in my backyard. It has some problems that I have been paying a fortune to have treated. Yesterday I saw tiny new shoots and leaves on the branches. I had been holding my breath because I had it cut back and treated in January.

When I saw the tiny new leaves I wanted to cry. I love this tree and gave it a big hug (can't get my arms around the trunk). If anyone had seen me they would have thought I was a tad daft - but the tree knows how I feel.

Too early for apple tinies - but coffee with Bailey's sounds pretty good right now.
