Sorry to hear that Cirrus was so stressed at the vet's . But now that he is home, he can recouperate in comfort.
If the e-collar looks like I believe it looks, you might be able to keep it on with a collar instead of gauze (or other type of ribbon that is tied on) The collar should fit through the loops and it will buckle into place.
Don't stress yourself about his running and jumping, it has been my experience that they pretty much do what they feel like they can do.
Best of luck. The next 2 weeks will go fast.

Oh, poor little Cirrus, I have just learned you have been sick with bladder oxalates and a blockage! My Luna has to deal with these things, so I know it's no fun!

Glad your surgery went fine, but it looks like you've been so scared and uncomfortable at the vet's! Please don't think your mommy did that to upset you, she only wanted to help you!

Good to know that you're at home now, and that you're active and use your litter box. But please don't be too active because of your e-collar, your mommy is worried about that!

    Get well soon, sweet boy!

Another thing you can use to keep the e-collar on: cable ties. You can't get out of those.

Cirrus, now you behave yourself! Meowmie wants you to get better.

Glad to hear Cirrus is home, using the litterbox and letting you pet him some, also that he likes the new food. Hope the med mixing idea works.

Sorry to hear you are having problems with the e-collar, though Jen's suggestion of using a buckle collar instead of ties is great, I think that should work!

Not being able to keep him confined must be so stressful too, the thing that springs to mind is putting him in a big dog crate, pity they can't be hired. Though confining him that way could stress him out more, maybe not such a good idea after all!

Hope everything begins to get better and time goes fast!

Will be keeping you both in my thoughts and prayers.
    Hugs

Sorry to hear Cirrus was so scared that he bit the vet. I am sure vets must learn how to live with that... he can't be th only one.

I think if he jumps and moves it is also a sign that he is feeling well. And I am sure his wound will be healed before the 25th. But of course you must see how to keep him quiet the next days.

I hope he calms down a little in his own environment!

    Hang on, Tracey.

Oh, poor Cirrus - and you! He certainly doesn't seem to be happy about his collar. The good thing is that he's probably feeling OK concerning the operation, since he's so active. I really hope you can keep him relaxed, so the sticthes won't break open! It's so important!! Hearing this, I'm glad Fister was kept in a cage for the first 5 days. Have you considered giving him a tranquilizer? Perhaps 2,5 mg. of Diazepam (Valium) for the first few days would make him less active.

This is the collar Fister had to wear for 10 days. He didn't like it, but accepted.

    Now, slow down, Cirrus!!

Another Update: Not A Very Good First Night

Hi everyone. Last night was very stressful for everyone. I only managed to get about 1 hour of sleep. When I tried to sleep in my room with Cirrus, my other 3 cats would cry at my door and then Cirrus would start crying and scratching the door with his e-collar. When I tried to sleep on the couch with Storm, Sunny, and Sky, Cirrus would start crying, scratching, and pounding on my bedroom door. I finally had to sleep on the floor in my bedroom near my door to try to prevent Cirrus from scratching it and crying.

This morning I tried to give him his antibiotics in his wet food and he started to eat it but then must have tasted the medicine and would have nothing to do with it. He was also trying to use his litterbox and was crying in pain but nothing was coming out. I noticed that he had peed on one of the pee pads which are around the litterbox.

I decided to take him back to the vet to have his e-collar tightened, his stitches examined, and his meds administered. My vet is out of town so there was a very nice woman vet who is covering for him. She gave him some gas to sedate him and secured his e-collar and said his stitches look fine.

Since my parents are out of town until early March, I decided to take Cirrus to their house and put him in their bathroom. I'll be able to check on him 3 times a day now because it's very close to my work and I can go there during my lunch break. I felt he needed a much quieter place without the distractions from my other cats. The first thing he did was to jump in the bathtub so I put a towel down for him in there.

I sure hope he'll be fine now and that I won't have to go back to the vets until the 25th. I've also decided that I'm only going to take him to the vets if he's sick or hurt in some way because it's just too traumatic and stressful for both him and me. I hope you don't think that I'm a bad meowmie for doing this.

Of course we don;t think you're a bad meowmie! In fact, a healing time in seclusion sounds just purrfect, especially because you can check on him so frequently.

Oh Tracey! What you have to go through to calm him down! I hope the new arrangement will work, it sure sounds like a good idea! If there's any way you can stuff a pill down his throat, do it! I suggest a 2 1/2 mg Diazepam - that must slow him down a bit!! Ask your vet!

I hope you'll get a good nights sleep, you certainly need it!!

Hugs to you, and I don't know what to Cirrus!! Tracey, you're a great cat meowmie!!

Btw, put a towel or blanket in front of the bathtub, so if he escapes, he'll land on something soft.

You are not a bad meowmie!!!!!

A bad mom would not have done all of this in the first place. She would also not care enough to try to find a better situation. Repeat after me, I am a great meowmie. Good, now keep repeating that.

What you are doing is helping Cirrus get better, even if he does not realize it.

I am sorry that last night was so stressful for you and I hope that the new accomidations will work. I think it is a great idea, it will help reduce the stress level for everyone.

I know it is hard when you have a sick baby and all you are trying to do is help and all they are doing is figting you. Please come and tell us about it anytime, we understand.

Prayers still going to Cirrus for a speedy and full recovery. Also some prayers of comfort to you.

Big {{{{HUGS}}}} to you also, I know that you will make is through this.

    Some Surgery Pictures Of Cirrus

Hi everyone. Here are 3 surgery pictures of Cirrus. The first one shows his e-collar and the last two are a bit graphic because they show his shaved bottom. He's now claimed the bathtub as his new bed. When I went to give him his nightly feeding, I opened the bathroom door and it looked like a cyclone had hit the bathroom. He had balled up all of the blankets and had almost turned his litterbox upside down. I sure hope he'll get used to living in the bathroom for a while and become more relaxed. Here are the pictures.

Here he looks like a very grumpy little bo peep.

    This sure looks painful.

That first picture is adorable!!!!!! He'll settle. What a great opportunity you have by leaving him at your mom's. I hope the rest of the week goes much smoother for you and Cirrus.
