A lot of us here celebrate birthdays for those we love and it doesn't mean we only appreciate them on that day. Having an actual day set aside to celebrate something just means we especially gather and celebrate it as a community, at least I think that is the idea behind holidays. We also don't NEED Thanksgiving or Halloween or St. Patrick's day etc etc. Those days all mean something different to different individuals, but we share in common recognizing it as a community and as a society on that particular day.

I also understand feeling down on some holidays because of feeling lonely or feeling left out too, but that also doesn't make the holiday stupid or pointless, that's all I'm saying
    i agree!

Cataholic, Edwina's Secretary, and K9Soul took the words out of my mouth. I don't go all out for V-Day, but I do like to buy cards for my family and friends. Cards from 'the dog' or 'the cat' are especially fun.

My mom still does this! Every year I get a little gift that's red or pink and some candy.

I agree micki! One year, I had an especially cute card and a heart shaped tin from Duke. Was very nice.

That is how we celebrate Valentines Day. This year we are having Dylan "sign" Valentines cards for family and friends. I enjoy the time spent with family better than as a couple. Of course Dan and I will do something together, maybe cards of something dumb like that, but we are also spending the day going to his sisters basketball game. She is on the Cougar's basketball team and they will be playing the Duck's in Corvallis. So instead of celebrating all alone, the family will be celebrating Stephanie's game instead.

I also send things to my family. This year I am having a bouquet of flowers sent to my mother in California. I order them online, and since I can't be there in person, I will have them delivered to her door. I also bought my sister a really cute teddy bear with Hershey's kisses and the bear is wearing a leopard print dress. My sis LOVES leopard print!

I will be making something for Dan with Dylan, maybe give him a cute photo of the two of us or something like that. So it's not all about couples, it's more just about love, and the meaning of celebrating what you have.

Love is great! You just need to find it, and the right kind! Being in love is one of the most beautiful feelings you ever get to experience, and when you do, gosh, it's just undescribable. I too used to be single all the Valentines Days, but who cares? Celebrate your singleness! Because one day, you won't be single anymore. You have your freedom now, enjoy it!

Those that have found love, consider yourself extremely lucky! I never dreamed back in '93 that this is the way I'd be now. So, life's experiences do determine our views on this touchy day. I'll be celebrating my dog love(for which I'd never trade for a man) this valentine's.
