I found out in my research that liver shunts in puppies are not uncommon. They are born with it and it is usually a smaller breed. It is usually one shunt and surgery has to be done or the pup may die from it. In older dogs it's not so easy. They develop for some reason and usually it's multiple shunts. When they tie off all the shunts is when the problem arises. I was told that doing that can cause more problems and even death. That's the scary part. I'm going to try and catch the segment of Emergency Vets!! Thanks, Pam for the info!!
