Hmm.....this is awfully odd! I see on the British Columbia pest control website they state this:

Raccoons are classified as furbearers under the Wildlife Act, and may be trapped in season by registered trappers who have a valid trapping licence. If you are in an area that is open to the discharge of firearms and you have a valid hunting licence, raccoons may be legally hunted. However, if you are in an area where the use of firearms is prohibited, raccoons may not be captured or killed without a permit.

When you break that down into easy terms I believe it says that raccoons can be hunted in British Columbia. BC Site

Here is a link to many many other sites which claim it is legal: Click Here

he doesntjust want the dog for that purpose. There are many reasons he wants the breed,he loves HUGEdogs and wants a big family type dog, that he can take out with him places..
    Ahh....ok....I get it now.

yes onlyif they were a puppy though because we want it to grow up with Oscar, and we dont want a male either, because of dominace issues. but I think he might think about going to a rescue for BMD,so thats good. we wont be getting it till I graduate and move out, so this could be alittle longer then next year.

    · Bernese Mountain Dogs have historically worked as drovers, draft dogs and watchdogs in the farmlands of the canton of Berne.
    http://www.akc.org/breeds/recbreeds/bermtn.cfm

He is intelligent, strong and agile enough to do the draft and droving work for which he was used in the mountainous regions of his origin.

In addition, I have been recently approved to be the GSMDCA delegate to the AKC, and as such I will endeavor to propose that the AKC establish a unified set of draft rules to be used by all draft breeds, with the hope that one day there will be the opportunity for Swissys and Rottweilers and Berners and Newfs and other draft breeds to be tested side-by-side for an AKC Draft title.
    http://www.gsmdca.org/draft_page.htm

He has also been used as a draft animal for pulling carts for farmers and weavers. He is a hardy dog with great strength and endurance

You see, this dog is clearly a breed that was originally bred for many purposes, including drafting.

She lives in the Okanagan (Kelowna, Westbank, Vernon, Peachland, Summerland, Penticton, Winflield, Oyama, any of those and more lol)

Thanks! My dad told me that it was illegal to hunt racoons, possums, skunks, and other small critters...Guess he was wrong haha. Well, i'm not going to correct him, or the racoons in his back yard are goners!

Well, we haven't had BMD puppies, but we have had some really cute Great Pyranees and St. Bernard pups. Anything's possible so have him keep his eyes on the rescues

And he may just fall in love with a BMD mix pup.

i read in DogFancy that you have to buy special food for bernese mountain dogs. because when they grow their weight does a job on their legs. the food is supposed to help strengthen their bones so they can support their enormous weight.

~just to let you (and your dad) know.
