This is a sad update and ending to this thread. I had to make the hard decision to help Sammy on his way to the Rainbow Bridge . He was having trouble breathing again, and another 80 ccs of fluid was drained - pretty agressive fluid production. The results of the pathology was mesothelial cancer. The lining of the plueral cavity was cancerous with the largest clump of cells in front of the heart. There was no treatment for him, no surgical solution, the only outlook he had was to continue to lay around, not eating, working so hard to breathe, and have fluid drained off every day to keep him going. In short, his quality of life was poor and not going to get better. The cancer was too aggressive and of the type that wouldn't respond to treatment (He passed a checkup with flying colors not yet 1 year ago). I spent some time with him to say goodbye, I explained everything to him, and made lots of promises to see him on the other side. I was with him when they put him under, and bless his heart, he purred the whole time. It was instant, painless, and although my heart is breaking, I know that he is rolling in catnip and making biscuits on a soft, fuzzy blanket at RB. His doc was crying, the two techs were crying, I was crying, but I got to say goodbye and tell him that I love him. Thank you all so much for the support, good thoughts, and prayers. I'm going out of the country Saturday, and the trip may be good timing to help me heal. Again, thank you, and God bless.

Jennie, I am so very sorry for your loss. It was the right decision and the only decision - the last thing you could do for sweet Sammy.

When you come back from leaving the country- come back again and tell us of all your other furkids.

Sammy will meet so many Pet Talk friend at Rainbow Bridge.

Oh Jennie I am soooo sorry. I lost my RB Mytsi to mammory cancer. I know how difficult this is. Mytsi says she is with Sammy now and she was waiting for him as he came through the gates of the bridge. She promises she will be his bestest buddy until you can once again hold him in your arms. She promises to show him the best place to watch over you and be your guardian kitty and when he misses you a lot she promises to take him to her favorite duck pond and play to make him feel better.

    Rest in Peace Sammy

I have moved this to Cat Memorial, where it sadly now belongs.
The good part is his struggles are over. The best part is he knew how much you loved him, and had that brief time of feeling better enough to purr and be with you before he had to say good-bye for the last time.

Remember, death does not win, because love lives on. Sam will be in your heart forever, and maybe he'll now be another angel watching over baby girl Sam, too.

Now Sam, you go find Uncle Mac up there near the Rainbow Bridge - I bet Lucas kitty (look for a big really furry black kitty) will lead you to him, and other people up there with kitty treats always at hand. Play nicely and rest in peace, Samkitty.

This is the worst news. I'm so sorry for you, sweetie. But you made the right decision and I know that you know that. He knew how much he was loved and it was the last act of kindness that you could do for your cat. Many others went before him to greet him and show him the life he deserves at the RB.

    Blessings,
    Mary

Oh Jenn, my heart is breaking for you right now. We were all praying so hard for little Sam and I was hoping he would pull through. You did all that you could and Sam was lucky to have such a loving Meowmie.

Rest easy little Sammy and enjoy your time at the RB. Make sure you look up Casper and OJ...they would love to be your friends.

Big {{{hugs}}} Jenn. Yes, you do need some time away after what you've been through. Please check in when you return, OK?

    RIP Sweet Sam

I am so sorry for your loss. I am weeping here as I write this, esp. the part where you said he passed his annual check 1yr ago, my two went for their annual today, both apparently ok but for some dental next month. So it makes me realise yet again, how we must treasure every day as time for cats is so much shorter, everything that can happen seems to get condensed into a much shorter time-span. Getting away is the best thing you can do. Rest up, and we'll hear from you again upon your return. So glad you were able to help sweet Sam on his way rather than his go alone without your knowing and supporting his transition. Have fun at the RB Sam, you've earned the rest and healing that the time there will bring you till you see Mum again.

Oh, I am sorry very sorry to hear this. My heart dropped when I saw where this thread had been moved to. Jennie I am so, very, very sorry, but unfortunately you made the only decision that you could. Sammy wouldn't have been happy living a life under those conditions. He is now well and healthy and breathing good at the RB. RIP sweet little Sammy and know that everything possible was done for you and know how much you were and always will be loved!

Thanks so much kittycats_delight for the beautiful siggy and avatar of my kids!
